 The Transmission uses the power created in the engine to keep the wheels spinning.

 A transmission is a machine in a power transmission system, which provides controlled application of power.

An automobile requires a transmission to allow the vehicle to move, by transmitting the motion produced by the engine to the tires. To control the RPM of the engine as the vehicle increases speed, the transmission converts the power into different gear ratios between the engine and the drive wheels. As speed increases, an automatic transmission shifts to a higher gear allowing the engine to stay at a relative low RPM.
